Sorrento

Sorrento is a quaint town located on the West Coast of Italy, about an hour train ride south of Naples. Pretty much the same lovely train ride you get all the way from Rome to Naples. Not what you would call encouraging.

Once we arrived in Sorrento we also saw the ass end of it before proceeding up the twisty, turny road up the hill to the hotel. Sorrento doesn't sit on the hillside, you see, as it rather more like clings scenically, and perhaps somewhat desperately, to the hills of the Amalfi Coast.

It turned out that Sorrento was much more scenic than first glance. A cute little town with lots of craftsmen who work making their wares right in their shops. This is of course a tactic that worked very efficiently to get me to shop, shop, shop... Sorrento, even though it is a small town was like every other city we were in and was filled with crazy drivers...and just for fun, added to the pandemonium of the cars and trucks and tour buses...they added random dogs, who would just wander into the street to wreak further havoc....and I am not talking about running, cringing, shrieking or showing any concern at all about the near death situation they were finding themselves in (that would actually describe us pretty well though)...nope these dogs just wandered out into the road like it was a scenic field, a meadow if you will, full of flowers, butterflies and perhaps a few bunnies….albeit rather rude noisy bunnies, who seemed in rather a hurry to get anywhere…but what is a dog to do?

We were very tired in Sorrento because we had already walked all over Rome and the Vatican...then up and down the marble stairs in the Museum in Naples. We did have one day where we just relaxed and had nothing to do in the town. And that was our plan...just be lazy and do nothing in particular. For some reason, that remains a mystery, this too involved a lot of damn walking. I guess "nothing in particular" was elusive so we had to keep searching for it.
