Here is the closet after taking off the layer of drywall....and yes I
did say "layer" caz the white you see is the layer of the cement
hard stuff that is under all the drywall, making it ever so fun putting
up art etc. At some point this whole project seemed like a good idea...not
at this point of course...
The dark line you can see running down about a third of the way in the
white is the original door opening. |

Here is the second
layer removed....and I have done a very bad job sawing the studs away,
but they came. Suffice as to say I am not the best person to be wielding
a Skil saw from a ladder and over my head. Oh yeah, and my safety goggles
are in the same bin as the crow bar...standing on a ladder reaching
up using a Skil saw with your eyes closed is pretty much how they tell
you to do it in shop class, isn't it? Can you tell I took Sewing?

No more studs, yeah! Look
at the nice large opening now. I will actually be able to reach all
corners of my closet now. Time Approx. 4pm....sweat, sweat, sweat....Orignal
opening size 26", new opening size 60.5"

Nice pile of debris to
get rid of now...ick. Did I mention the very tuckered and sure I will
be quite sore tomorrow theory? Oh yeah and the fact that I figured that
I was too lazy to get the crow bar from my storage locker, so I did
the whole thing with a hammer and screwdriver....there's some fine,
fine logic for you.

The rock hard layer below
the drywall. Not sure what it is, maybe asbestos, caz that will make
working without a mask worthwhile....it is annoying and pretty damn
heavy...did I mention the whole sore thing not seeming to be all that
patient to wait til tomorrow? Good thing cutting in the first coat is
not a precision job, being as I plan on crown molding and baseboards...
